Spaghetti Casserole: the PERFECT Potluck Food

This serves 16!! So that’s 2 servings for 8 people, or 1 serving for 16 people. CRAZY! We’re talking a spaghetti dinner at church, school function, or a large family gathering. This is the PERFECT potluck food!

Casseroles are the perfect food for sharing. If you know a family member, a friend or a neighbor who is going through a difficult time, oftentimes the easiest way to help them is to gift them with a casserole so they won’t have to worry over a meal. Casseroles are great for potlucks and neighborhood parties too. This spaghetti casserole is no exception. You’ll love sharing this and you’ll love eating this too.

This spaghetti casserole tastes great and is easy to make too. You cook it as you would regular spaghetti, but you layer the pasta and the sauce in a casserole dish and top it with cheese. Then you bake it. This particular recipe makes enough for two pans, so you can share or freeze one.

Ingredients

2 lbs ground beef
1 (48 oz) jar spaghetti sauce
2 tsp oregano
1 tsp basil
2 tsp thyme
3-4 garlic cloves, minced, or 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 (16 oz) pkg spaghetti noodles
1/2 cup margarine or butter
3/4 tsp onion powder or 1/2 onion
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
12 oz shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350º

Brown meat, drain fat. Add spaghetti sauce; simmer 20 minutes.

Cook noodles as directed (al dente); drain and toss with butter and Parmesan cheese.

Spray two 9×13 pans with non-stick spray. In both pans layer half the sauce, all the noodles, rest of sauce; top with mozzarella cheese.

Cover with foil; bake 45 minutes. Serves 16.

Note: Since this recipe makes enough for two casseroles, plan one for your family and one for a friend. Think of someone who might need a reminder that they have friends who care about them – a new mom in your neighborhood, a family who’s moving, someone with an illness. OR, keep one for yourself and freeze one for another day. Wrap well with plastic wrap and then aluminum foil. Note the name of the recipe, the date and cooking instructions on the foil. Thaw completely before baking – make sure to remove the plastic wrap!

  1. Maybe I’m half asleep & that’s why the recipe isn’t making any sense. First it doesn’t tell you what to do w/ the meat. It tells you to brown it & that’s it.It says it makes enough for 2 pans but according to the directions it only makes enough for 1. The directions say “Spray two 9×13 pans with non-stick spray. In both pans layer half the sauce, all the noodles, rest of sauce; top with mozzarella cheese.If you put 1/2 the sauce, all the noodles & 1/2 the sauce what do you put in the 2nd pan. The ingredients don’t seem enough for 2 9×13 pans,8×8 maybe. If you want to make 2 9x13s then you should double everything.
